Learn to Edit Windows / Mac OS Hosts File

Edit the computer's hosts file can be useful to block access to websites without using any application. In addition, the user can also check if your computer has been infected by a trojan, whose common tactic is to block access to pages of antivirus and redirect banking sites online traps. Windows

Step 1. Press the "Windows + R" keys to open the "Run" and enter the command "notepad% windir% \ system32 \ drivers \ etc \ hosts" (without the quotes);

Step 2. The hosts file opens in Notepad.

To add a site on the blacklist enter the IP address 127.0.0.1, at least one space and the website address. Remember to add all the possibilities, as www.google.com.br, www.google.com, google.com.br and google.com - use one line for each URL as the image;


Step 3. After making the desired changes, simply save the file. To do this, go to "File" menu and click "Save" - or press the shortcut "Ctrl + S";

OS X

Step 4. Open the "Terminal". It can be located in the "Utilities", "Applications" or via Spotlight. In that case, just click on the magnifying glass in the top right corner of the screen and type "terminal" (without quotes);



Step 5. In the "Terminal", enter the following command: "sudo nano / private / etc / hosts" (without quotes). If prompted, enter your system administrator password and press Enter;

Step 6. The hosts file will open in Terminal itself. Use the arrow keys to position the cursor on the last line and add the site you want to block. Check out the second step to learn how to block a website;

Step 7. After making the desired changes, press "Control +" to save the file. Then, just press Enter to overwrite the original file.

Ready! If you find any reference to anti-virus and banking sites, it can be a clue that your computer has been infected with malware. In this case, update your antivirus and run a full scan.
