New Wiko (Getaway) smartphone: Specialty is its image quality

This year Wiko went from darkness to light, but, above all, Jelly Bean to KitKat. The latest version of Android is available from the end of 2013 but slowed by one of its preferred suppliers (MediaTek), the manufacturer had fallen behind in its integration. He catches up today. After the slide, Getaway is the second model launched Android 4.4 KitKat.

However, this good news reflects a less successful strategy. Wiko prefer simply cheap and limited components rather than going out of its habits. Wax the office is still exceptional in its catalog with its Tegra 4i. Thus, if the Getaway ahead of the software side, it gives the impression to stagnate technically. For 199 €, its data sheet is perhaps a little too conventional:

Android 4.4 KitKat
HD screen (1280 x 720 pixels) 5 inch
quad-core processor 1.3 GHz MT6582
GPU Mali-400
1GB RAM
16GB of internal memory (+ microSD)
13 megapixel camera with LED flash
5 megapixel webcam
3G connectivity + / Wi-Fi b / g / n / Bluetooth 3.0 / GPS
2000 mAh battery
dimensions: 143 x 69.5 x 6.9 mm
Weight: 124 grams

Nevertheless, Wiko Getaway is a nice product, with quality finishes. At the front, we obviously find a large glass to protect the screen, but not only. It rises above the speaker, webcam and light sensors / proximity and falls just below the navigation buttons Android, where she meets a sleek brushed metal band.

Metal found on the edges while a fine imitation leather was applied to the back cover, non-removable. Proof of the great attention to detail, it has been freed of all regulatory registrations, deported on the bottom edge to not harm your general appearance. The back and do the hosts need: camera and flash on top, the mark in the middle and the speaker down.

The same care was taken to new model, where the SIM and microSD slots are hidden behind doors smooth to not break the slender line of smartphones. This is probably the same reason that led Wiko designers opted for elongated Food and volume buttons on the right. As for the jack (top) and microUSB (bottom) port, they were left uncovered and are thus easily accessible. In short, it is a success in terms of ergonomics, as well as on the manufacturing since no game comes hinder grip.

Getaway in eyeful

Once running, the Wiko Getaway reveals a beautiful 5-inch screen. HD resolution (1280 x 720 pixels) display provides a sufficiently fine for browsing the internet while the IPS technology offers enough viewing angles for sharing photos and videos with friends. The brightness is quite good and warm colors. All conditions are gathered for optimal visual experience.

Android 4.4 KitKat FINALLY!

In terms of user experience, we are running Android 4.4 KitKat without embellishment. As always, Wiko book pretty much the same version as Google. No widgets on the lock screen but some shortcuts in addition to the classic release that leads to the current application or, failing that, at the office. It consists of several panels, including the addition will automatically once fully occupied by applying shortcuts or widgets on the previous space.

The Notification Center down the top edge and incorporates some quick adjustments. The three navigation buttons under the screen are used to access the contextual menu or multitasking, back to the office, or open Google Now and back. The main menu provides access to various applications installed.

Wiko preload some to complete the offer of Google: a radio, a notepad and a wizard update with 16 GB of storage is not too crowded. Nearly 13 GB are available for the user. Add the user to fill them with the applications of their choice from the Play Store.

Averages, but sufficient performance for many

Navigation is fluid and we can thank the quad-core processor MT6582 board for that. Clocked at 1.3GHz and complemented by 1GB of RAM, it manages to run multiple tasks at the same time but not always easily. We observed slight slowdowns in video playback HD 1080p, regardless of their formats. Mean by this that the MKV does not pose more problems than the MP4 for example, which is not bad. Average performance found on AnTuTu, with over 17 000 points still score.

The Mali-400 GPU is also contrary to what you might think by looking at the verdict of 3DMark, it proved capable of running some 3D games like Dead Trigger 2 and Angry Birds Go !. Obviously this is not a great warrior and some slowdowns are expected, but nothing really annoying. What benefit the beautiful 5-inch screen, but also the powerful speaker in the back.

The photo, its main asset

On paper and in practice, the picture is the area in which the Getaway is doing the best. This is obviously not by its dedicated app that stands out since. The interface is rather basic and few settings: resolution, (4: 3 or 16: 9) and ISO. She at least has the merit of offering several modes for "smart" will appreciate the most neophytes.

In contrast, the 13-megapixel image sensor delivers bright, detailed pictures. In return, the electronic noise appears in dark areas. One can say the same for the front 5-megapixel sensor, despite a low contrast to our liking.

For photo enthusiasts

Wiko The Getaway is a pleasant surprise. Its slim design with great attention has particularly impressed us and its good performance in picture eventually allow it to stand out from other models cost around 200 €, despite its technical platform for the less basic and the lack of 4G.

In other words, addicted to Instagram and photo sharing should find their account. Gamers and streaming will prefer probably the Wax for the same price.
