Check out: Robot plays TT with Human (Ceatec 2014)

A robot playing table tennis was one of the attractions of Ceatec 2014 in Tokyo in recent days. It's Omron, a huge machine with mechanical arms that can calculate how rebut played using a system of sensors and algorithms. But the goal of the company that plans to build the robot is not a champion ping-pong, but a helper in industrial plants.

Still a prototype, the robot can track the speed and location of the ball, besides the movement of the player and the opponent's racket. With that calculates how to react. Ie "think" in a much more intelligent than most robots, since we are able to change their actions according to unpredictable stimuli.

In factories, the Omron serve to differentiate elements that look alike and put them in their correct positions in a production cycle. "It is a demonstration of how robots can interact with a person and react appropriately. We visualize this robot in factories, helping in production lines and interacting with a worker," said Takuaya Tsuyuguchi, director of Omron.

At the exhibition, the company official said that the decreased ability of the robot to prevent him to win every game. Maybe so, though I could bounce four to twenty attacks in sequence, he has lost most of the contests held.

The prototype is a giant machine, but its producers also hope to resolve this issue soon, with a redesign. However, the general public will not have access to the robot. The company plans to trade it only with companies who will use it for industrial purposes. Watch a video of the robot below:
