Windows 9: what to expect from new ver. of MS OS

If the rumors are correct, Microsoft is about to launch the Technical Preview version of Windows 9, its new operating system. Along with this, a lot must be confirmed and the leaks we have so far, some seem pretty exciting news. So we made a compilation with the main novelties of the OS so you know what to expect at launch time.

Although we are facing this as "news", it is important to remember that all this is the result of rumors and leaks that came from a German website called WinFurture. The site got a preliminary version of Windows 9 and most of what we know about the OS comes from his publications.

Around the Start Menu

Microsoft itself confirmed in its last Build conference, but had not seen the new Start Menu in action since. With leaks WinFuture, it was revealed some similarities that element of Windows 9 with menus from previous versions of the system, but also some new features appeared.

The Live Tiles have been incorporated in this menu and also retained their characteristic dynamics. Apparently in the video, it seems possible to give real-time information about the apps that each tile represents. It was even shown how to switch between the Start Screen and Start Menu in Windows 9 Check out more details here.

Multi-desktop

Last week, over a leaked video WinFuture showed how multi-desktop Windows 9 works. The fact that an operating system to have a function like this is not exactly new, but how this occurs in the Microsoft OS is very interesting.

There is a button on the Taskbar to access a manager working areas and, thus, a preview of each is shown. You can even check out a preview of the contents of every window open on each desktop, which makes it all very practical. Apparently, this function will be a replacement for the traditional Alt + Tab.

This is another element that we can expect the final version of Windows 9, since it is a big change for Windows and, it seems, the function is already functional and well finished. Therefore, it is almost a certainty.

Windows Explorer

As always happens in every release of a new version of Windows, Microsoft has a number of new features for the browser native file system. In Windows 8 it was already very good, but seems to have lost some of the agile performance of past versions. In Windows 9, this must change and the interface of this tool seems to have undergone a restructuring.

In the same video WinFuture that comes on the new multi-desktop system, you can see an explorer window being used to illustrate the novelty. Note that Windows Explorer is much cleaner and advanced options seem to be hidden or separated by tabs at the top of the window. This makes sense, since Microsoft did it in the latest versions of the apps of Office 2010 and 2013.

Notifications

How tendency on all operating systems today, a central functional and well thought out notifications is a big difference and a real hand on the wheel today. Windows 9 will continue with notifications appearing in a comic strip in the top-right corner in Windows 8, but will also concentrate them all on a menu that expands from the System Tray.

This central notification, however, seems to be in a preliminary stage of development by not showing much integrated into the system. Either way, we believe that until the commercial launch of OS in 2015, it is already prone. Check out more details here.

Charms Bar

What was one of the highlights of Windows 8 seems to have disappeared from Windows 9. The Charms Bar made sense for the tablet user, but as Windows 8 has always been more used in desktops, it hindered more than helped. Many moves just to access the power button the system never really took.

All functions of the bar were spread mainly by the system and incorporated in the new Start Menu. It was unclear, however, if this bar will remain in devices with touchscreens.

The name issue

A few weeks ago, rumors about the possibility of Microsoft slightly change the name of its operating systems began to emerge. It seems that the company will use only "Windows" for all your OS. With that, we would not have "Windows 9", "Windows Phone" or "Windows RT". All of them would just "Windows".

Some way to differentiate a new version or another would be still used, but not in order to build the identity of the system, especially in ads on TV, the internet and other media.

Cortana

This must be one of the biggest news of the next version of the OS. You should already know the personal assistant from Microsoft that came to market with Windows Phone 8.1. She has a lot of intelligent features and, at some level, blending the capabilities of Siri, Apple, with the contextual power of Google Now.

It is believed that it will be available soon on the desktop, at least in a beta version on Windows 9. Today, even new leaks showed screen shots that bring details of Cortana in the new Windows.

Nevertheless, it is not known what are the uses of it in a traditional PC and how would be the most convenient format for user interaction: voice or text? It is worth noting that notebooks today have very basic built-in microphones and can make life difficult for a tool like Cortana's time to recognize voice. Therefore, Microsoft can make the interaction more practical text. This, however, is speculation.

Price

To combat piracy and encourage the upgrade from older versions to the new, Microsoft can come with a very aggressive pricing policy. It is believed that the new Windows is very cheap both for the buyers and for the direct partner manufacturers.

For companies that manufacture, and sell the computer with pre-installed, Windows, Microsoft can make the licensing grace or less by offering a version of the OS simplest low cost. For direct buyers, there is talk of the possibility of Windows cost only $ 20 for those who already have the original Windows 8.1.

Release

As already mentioned, Windows 9 - if this is even the name - may have its Technical Preview version released very soon, by the end of October, according to the leakers of information. Still, the commercial version will be finished and on the market only in 2015.

Microsoft to put Windows 9 shelves and new PCs sometime in the first half of next, more specifically, in the southern hemisphere autumn. It is also during this period that the company usually makes its Build conference. Therefore, the date to make a bit of sense, but it still seems the fruit of speculation or rumor.

Questions

What still seems intriguing is the fact that Microsoft has never used the "Windows 9" name. This supports the thesis that the commercial paper of the same OS will be simplified to begin the integration of all systems of the company or that version 2015 will be an update of the current Windows 8 then Windows would be a 8.2? It's unlikely, but it remains a possibility.

In the case of integration of systems, it is expected that you can start an activity on your PC, continue on and finish the smartphone tablet, for example. Ie, everything would be synchronized. Anyway, let's keep an eye on the news from Microsoft in the coming days.

Update

Microsoft has started to send out invitations to the press for an event on Windows. The date is September 30, but there are no details about the schedule for now.
